Plebiscite Results Available
Results of the May 28 plebiscites show the levels of support among citizens for the proposed amalgamation of four municipalities in Pictou County.
“We thank citizens for taking the opportunity to vote as a means of showing how they feel about amalgamation,” said Warden Ron Baillie, MOU Steering Committee Chair.
The councils will decide by June 20 whether to proceed or withdraw from the amalgamation process.
The unofficial results of the four plebiscites are as follows:
Municipality of the County of Pictou
Yes – 2,310 and 23%
No – 7,794 and 77%
Town of New Glasgow
Yes – 2,148 and 66%
No – 1,096 and 34%
Town of Stellarton
Yes - 489 and 25%
No – 1,438 and 75%
Town of Pictou
Yes – 685 and 48%
No - 741 and 52%

Official results will be released by the Returning Officer on Tuesday, May 31, 2016.
